Improving teacher training and creating equitable access to K-2 reading interventions

The impact these [Reading Ready tutoring] efforts made cannot be overstated! We can already see the impact in iReady and other district-level assessments. However, beyond the data, I am most appreciative that college students and kids connected and that so many were supported effectively to become readers, enjoy school, and maybe glimpse a new and exciting future for themselves. The human impact is exciting! I hope (the) college student's caught that vision and enjoyed their investment of their time and talents into another human being. Please express my sincere thanks to those that supported the tutoring program within LGSD.

Reading Ready tutoring has allowed me to directly see that when students gain confidence in reading they gain confidence in themselves. The explicit instruction and level-based lesson focuses on the individual needs of each student. This allows emerging readers to feel comfortable throughout their journey. Personally, I have had a student tell me that they “don’t like reading” during their first lesson, and then eventually say “When will we read together again” during their last lesson.

I never imagined the impact I would have when I started to tutor two students in the Reading Ready Program. These students improved so drastically in such a short period of time. It was emotional to see how much more confident and skilled of a reader they became. When one of my students read a sentence for the first time after weeks of working with her, I have never felt more happy for someone in my entire life. Working with these students with Reading Ready has left a huge impact on their lives and mine.

The Science of Reading Intro Course was truly outstanding! It not only deepened my appreciation for literature, but also equipped me with valuable analytical skills. The variety of texts and videos made each session intellectually stimulating and enjoyable. I feel more confident in my ability to teach reading!

Thank you for your Ready Go Program. The two students I tutored using the Reading Go program showed significant improvement, moving from red to green the Acadience Middle of Year Assessment. They can now blend and segment words independently. My class achieved the highest growth in the Middle of Year assessment among all kindergarten classes…I truly appreciate you creating this amazing, life-changing program. I witness my students’ confidence grow as they learn to read, and I thank you for helping me become a confident and empowering teacher as well.
